Migrating product data
You can use ShopWired's product import system to import product data from your existing website into ShopWired. The product import system allows you to enter all of your product data into a spreadsheet and upload the spreadsheet file to your ShopWired account. ShopWired will then automatically create products from the spreadsheet file.
To migrate product data, you'll need to obtain a download of your product data from your existing website. Most providers should offer a product data download option (into a spreadsheet / ). If you're unsure of how to obtain a download of your product data, you should contact your existing website provider.
Importing product data into ShopWired
Once you have downloaded your product data from your existing website, the data will need to be copied across to a new spreadsheet file that will be used to import it into ShopWired.
ShopWired has a specific format for importing product data:
- Each column in the spreadsheet has a specific heading that must be used
- Each product is contained on its own row in the spreadsheet
- Product are specified on subsequent rows, beneath the main product information
- Product are also specified on subsequent rows, beneath the main product information
- When assigning categories to products, you can enter the name of the category directly assigned to the product (not the whole category structure)
- If you have categories of the same name, enter the full category structure instead in the format
Parent > Subcategory
- To import images for products, you must specify a URL where the image is currently hosted
- If you receive a separate export of your images from your current website (as a file), you can use ShopWired's image hosting service to generate URLs
You can download a product import template from your ShopWired account:
- Navigate to Products
- Select
import
- Locate the Product import template section
- Select
download import template
A definition of each column in the product import template is detailed here.
If your products have variations, read the guidance on importing product variations and if you are using the product choices system, read the guidance on importing product choices.
Important notes
- Each product record must be contained on a single row within the spreadsheet
- The column headings on ShopWired's import template must be retained and cannot be changed
- Data must not be entered into any columns that don't have a column heading
- Follow the definitions for each column carefully
- The
Item ID
column must be left blank
Once you import your product data, if you've made a mistake and need to complete the import again, you can use the delete data feature, although please be aware that this will delete all products from your website.
Product images
Product images
ShopWired's product import system requires that you specify the URL for a category image where that image can be found on a publicly accessible server.
If you do not have URLs for your product images (for example, if you have them on your hard disk), you can use ShopWired's image hosting server to generate URLs for your product images.
Google Shopping
Google Shopping
If you are already marketing your products through on your existing website, you can continue to do so on ShopWired using the Google Shopping app.
How you migrate to using ShopWired's Google Shopping app depends on how you are currently identifying your products on Google Merchant Center.
If you are already using SKU codes as identifiers
If you are currently using product and/or variation SKU codes as the identifier when listing on Google Shopping, you will not need to remove the existing listings from your Google Merchant Center account. Instead, when configuring ShopWired's Google Shopping app, select to use the SKU code as the product identifier.
ShopWired's Google Shopping app will then be able to "take over" the existing listings. Once all of the existing listings have been taken over, remove the existing/old product source.
If you are not using SKU codes as identifiers
If you are not currently using the product and/or variation SKU codes as the identifier when listing on Google Shopping and are using something else (for example, a product ID), then ShopWired's Google Shopping app will not be able to "take over" the existing listings.
Instead, you will need to delete the existing listings from your Google Merchant Center account by removing the product source and use ShopWired's Google Shopping app to export new listings. ShopWired recommends that you perform this immediately after launching your website.
